Orange Drop Cookies with Orange Cream Icing

  • For the orange drop cookies:
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • 2 Tablespoon grated orange rind
  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • For the icing:
  • 2 cups confectioner sugar
  • 2 Tablespoon butter
  • 1 Tablespoon grate orange rind
  • Approximately 2 Tablespoons orange juice


  1. For the cookies:
  2. Mix shortening, sugar and egg. Stir in orange juice and rind.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well.
  4. Drop by rounded teaspoons 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  5. Bake at 400°F for 8 to 10 minutes. Allow to cool and ice with Orange Butter Icing.
  6. For the icing:
  7. Blend sugar and butter. Stir in orange rind and orange juice until smooth.
