Wow, things are a bit stressful lately, aren’t they? It’s hard to focus on the positive, to not have anxiety and to have faith in everything that’s going to go down tomorrow and the next few years. Tensions seem extra high and damaging invisible walls between fellow Americans seem to be forming. It doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of joy in the world right now, does there?
Well, I’ve got just the cure. Everyone…yes you, you and you too…needs to go see Trolls (the movie), stat. I took my girls and some of Kelly’s friends to see it on Friday night for her birthday and we had the most positive movie experience, ever. I downloaded the soundtrack before the movie was even over, everyone leaving the theatre was happy and joyful, and my group was inspired to carry on the “happiness is within you” message to everyone we encountered.
I grew up with Trolls being popular as a kid and really didn’t like them at all. They creeped me out a bit, so when Kelly said she wanted to see the new Trolls movie for her birthday, I was less than excited. But as it turns out, Trolls was right up my happy street alley!
Basically, in the movie, a village of “Bergens” believe that the only way to be happy is to eat a troll (because trolls are ALWAYS happy). On the day of troll eating (Trollstice) the prince is all set to eat his Troll when he discovers that the trolls have escaped and are no where to be found. When he later asks his dad how he’ll ever be happy since he can’t eat a troll, his dad responds “You can’t. You will never be happy. The only path to happiness is to eat a troll.” So, the young prince (and all of Bergen town) accepts their fate that they will never be happy. They live sad, miserable, unfulfilled lives.
Eventually they are reunited with the Trolls, who teach them that happiness is not garnered from something we eat (buy, wish for, covet, etc). It’s within all of us…we just have to choose to be happy and live our lives with a positive mindset and happy things will come our way. Even when not so happy things are happening, we can turn things around by focusing on the positive and reaching deep within our internal happiness banks to turn things around.
What a great message for this sobering, tough, stressful election period. I hope we can all be happy and spread the happiness message around to all who need it. (And go see the movie Trolls. Promise me you’ll do it!)
