You all know I love the folks and the products from Quaker. Quaker was such a great part of my childhood… in fact, if I were to sit down and think back to an image or logo that was most regular in our home growing up, it would be the Quaker Oats guy. Whether it was a hot bowl of oatmeal in the morning, one of these Applesauce Oatmeal Streusel Muffins or some homemade oatmeal cookies in the afternoon, or simply the Quaker Oats carton being used as a drum during playtime, Quaker has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
February is the month for love, and with Quaker that means starting with our hearts… as in heart healthy. February is American Heart Month and Quaker is celebrating by donating $1.00 to the American Heart Association for each current Facebook fan and every new person who “likes” the Quaker Facebook Page during the month of February (up to $250,000). The money donated by Quaker will benefit the AHA’s new program My Heart. My Life., which helps bring healthy cooking curriculum to after-school organizations across the country –> and you know I love that! Stop what you are doing right now and take two seconds to go and “like” Quaker on Facebook. Then come right back here… I’ve teamed up with Quaker for a heart healthy giveaway worth approximately $250!
How are you keeping your heart healthy?
Diet and exercise are integral to heart health and starting your morning off with a great heart healthy breakfast, like a bowl of hot Quaker oatmeal, can help your heart to keep on pumping for a long time to come. More importantly, when we set an example for our children about the importance of a healthy breakfast each morning (like my mom did for me when I was growing up) we help them to start taking care of their heart at an early age.
How about a heart healthy giveaway? My friends at Quaker want to share an Amazing Heart Kit with one lucky Dine & Dish reader! Included in this giveaway:
Quaker oatmeal bowl and products, a yoga mat, Dr. Nieca Goldberg’sComplete Guide to Women’s Health, Quaker Oats heart-healthy recipes and a heart rate monitor. (ARV: $250).

My dad just moved in with us last week (after a terrible car accident). He has dentures that have NEVER fit correctly and he’s not very motivated to get them fixed — even with help. He usually drinks an “instant breakfast” each morning, but I actually got him to eat a bowl of oatmeal this morning — and he loved it.
So, I’m keeping him healthy along with our whole family. 🙂
Tweeted the required thing, but I don’t know how to link to my tweet. ???

Oats are very healthy and nutritious. these muffins look great.
My father had raging heart disease for 30 years. I take cardiac care very seriously – work out 6 day a week for an hour, eat whole grains (a lot of oatmeal, actually), fatty fish, fruits, veggies and legumes. I’m not perfect all the time and it’s still a struggle, but it is so important to me.
LIked Quaker on facebook – thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
EXCELLENT giveaway!! 🙂 I <3 Quaker oats, and those muffins look delish.
I try to be good to my heart with a diet heavy in plants, whole grains, and omega-3 goodness from fish oil and flax seed. Oh, and walking. I'm a walker, not a runner. 🙂
Walking with the dogs, no snacks at night!
Exercise. Exercise. Exercise. And, of course, eating more oats!
I like Quaker on face book thanks for the giveaways you have
consume more plant material than meat and moving more than i sit – both of which i’m committed to do more of this year. and at the moment am also working on cutting back on the dairy products – one other tip that has helped: there are no ‘good foods, bad foods’ and being aware of what i’m putting in my mouth, savoring the meal and the time away from my desk and actually sitting at a table.
Thanks for the great giveaway — I liked Quaker on Facebook!
We’re keeping hearts healthy in our family with lots of hearty oatmeal and fresh fruits and veggies!

I actually eat Quaker oats every morning to keep my heart healthy.
I have been exercising more on our treadmill and we have also been aiming to eat a little lighter, taking small steps at a time. Instead of two desserts, we split one, instead of cooking in butter, we use a dash of cooking spray. I love feeling better about the food I’m eating!
Kristin, love this giveaway you are hosting! Beautiful photos too. That blue wood is awesome with the muffins! I am a Quaker Oats fan on FB 🙂

Apparently I already “like” Quaker Oats.
Trying so hard to be the last person on earth not on Twitter …
I kicked out all boxed b’fast cereals a while back and now only buy the big jug of Quaker Oats. Use it for either granola ( http://wp.me/p1eTh7-2m ) or for oatmeal. Usually throw in a handful of dried nuts and a handful of walnuts, nuke for 4 mins at 50%, then a Tbs of brown sugar. Yum!
I have oats at least 3-4 times a week, exercise 4-5 times a week, and have almost completely eliminated salt from my diet. Woo hoo! Yay for heart health! 😀 Thanks for the giveaway!
I exercise 4-5 times a week with a mix of cardio and strength training to keep my heart nice and strong!!
Also, check out my tweet by Shawna1410 to whole grain oats and Quaker!! 🙂
This recipe looks delicious! To keep my heart healthy, I run 4 days a week, ride horses 2 days a week, and make oatmeal with apples, cinnamon, and sometimes a bit of peanut butter every morning for breakfast. 🙂
No more fried food – lots of fruit & veggies instead. Oatmeal for breakfast – kicking the donuts out of my life forever.

To stay healthy, I try to run regularly (usually 3-4 times a week). Lately I’ve been stuck on the treadmill/elliptical due to the chilly/icy/snowy weather, but I’m looking forward to getting outside again soon once the weather warms up a bit.
I’m actually a dietitian so I take a lot of measures to protect my heart. Some of the best things is to add healthy fats, such as olive oil and nuts, and others that have omega-3’s to combat inflammation, exercise is great for your heart too

I exercise regularly and cut back on foods high in sugar and fat. I am always looking for heart healthy recipes to try and share with my cardiac rehab patients. I am looking forward to trying the Applesauce Oatmeal muffins!
I need to lower my cholesterol so I am excited to try this. One resource I have been using to learn more about heart health is theHarmony Heart Group website.
I now am able to get more sleep thus skipping the Cortisol effect.
Using this recipe for muffins I can also skip breakfast and had two of these with my morning coffed and it amounts to about the same.
I use Splenda/Brown sugar combo and sometimes use whole oat groats rather than quick or regular oats. Quaker’s groats are very fresh and full of what every body need.
I liked the page! Im going to try these tomorrow!
I, too, grew up with Quaker Oatmeal. We had it for breakfast almost every morning and still remember my Mom sending us off to school with her famous last words, “It will stick to your ribs!”. In addition she always added it to her meatloaf and now so do I. For a healthy snack I also make granola for my family.
Not buying cookies in the grocery store…homemade all the way! Reading labels, too!
Wow that sounds like a killer combo: apple, cinnamon and oatmeal.
This looks so delicious and the instructions are straightforward.
I will get some fresh apples from the farmer’s market this weekend and give it a try – thank you for the recipe.
I am trying to increase my amount of exercise, and I eat oatmeal for breakfast every day!

Have you ever thought about including a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is important and everything. However imagine if
you added some great photos or videos to give your
posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with
images and clips, this site could certainly be one of the most beneficial in its niche.
Excellent blog!
I really liked these muffins a lot, fluffy, moist but next time I’m adding a tad bit of salt. It was lacking that little flavor boost. Thank you for posting.
I think the admin of this web site is in fact working hard in favor of his
web page, because here every information is quality based material.
Yum!!
I made these tonight and they are WONDERFUL! I added a cup of craisins that I had soaked to plump them, 1/4 c. Chia seeds, and a t. Of vanilla. Love that crumble topping too. Came out great and made the house smell divine! Oh, and all I had was sweetened applesauce, came out great!
I love your additions! Thanks so much for letting me know!
Hi there, after reading this awesome paragraph
i am too happy to share my experience here with mates.
Maybe I’m just not seeing it, but what temperature do you bake these at?
HI Nicole –
I am so sorry about that! We recently updated the recipe formatting and forgot to get the oven temp in there. You bake these at 375°F.
Thanks so much for noticing that!
