Easy Appetizers are my favorite! This recipe from the 70’s gets a modern update with PHILADELPHIA Bacon Cream Cheese Spread. These Bacon Cream Cheese Rollups will be a hit at your next gathering!
Sometimes I think my mom’s generation had it easier when it came to cooking.
All you have to do is look at an old recipe book and you’ll see really doable at home recipes. Not over the top creations, but simple ideas that came out of necessity versus the need to out do or out “Pinterest” someone else.
I love it when I find simple recipes from old magazines and cookbooks. They tend to be classics…without a lot of fuss, but a whole lot of appeal! Those old recipes always provide a neat glimpse into what I assume were the trends from when I was growing up.
This Bacon Cream Cheese Rollup recipe, featuring PHILADELPHIA Bacon Cream Cheese Spreadis from a 1979 issue of Southern Living Magazine, which was then rediscovered on Food.com. I can just picture it being served at my mom and dad’s old dinner club parties. Easy appetizers like this is what it used to be all about! A tiny bit of fancy, a whole lot of ease and really great taste.
Of course, they didn’t have the luxury of PHILADELPHIA Bacon Cream Cheese Spreads back then… that’s one of the joys of living right now. We have more products at our disposal to experiment with! Although I know my mom always used PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, I know she would have had a lot of fun with the newer varieties (like Bacon) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese has on the market now!
So are you ready to get back to basics with these incredibly easy appetizers? If you are having a dinner party or event coming up, these Bacon Cream Cheese Rollups will be loved and devoured! Let’s get retro. Enjoy!

I’ve never seen these with bread inside. When I lived in Kansas City, my neighbor made them with pickled jalapeños and pineapple. Gonna try the bread. Yum!

Sarah says
Hi, would these be ok to make in advance and reheat once party has started to get going? Do you have any advice on best way to do it?
Kristen says
Hi Sarah – I haven’t tried that but I totally think it would work. I would bake them, then maybe just a few minutes before the party stick them under the broiler for just a couple minutes (3-5 but watch so they don’t burn). That will crisp up the toast and bacon perfectly!
Let me know if you give it a try and how it goes!
