OK parents… it’s back to school time and I know some of you are celebrating. I happen to be a little weepy.
Leah starts preschool this year, Ella will be in 1st grade full time (Kindergarten was just half days), Kelly is headed into 3rd grade, and Jacob is beginning his last year of elementary school. I am totally not ready for them to get so big.
If you are sitting around with eyes on the brink of tears, like me, you might like this comfort filled giveaway from Kellogg’s Frosted Mini Wheats.
My kids love Kellogg’s Frosted Mini Wheats. On those mornings when I don’t have enough time to make breakfast, Kellogg’s Frosted Mini Wheats come to the rescue. I feel just fine sending my kids off for a day of fun at school with full tummies from Kellogg’s.
Kellogg’s is all about making your mornings a little easier… and if you are like me, these first few days easy is going to mean “comfort” as I sit in my empty house with my babies all at school. My friends at Kellogg’s have offered one lucky Dine & Dish reader to win a “Comfort Gift Basket” including a gorgeous plush robe from Liz Claiborne, Pajamagram fluffy white slippers and a box of Kellogg’s Frosted Mini Wheats.
To enter the giveaway, simply leave a comment on this post telling me how you make school mornings a little easier.

Mornings go easier when I program the coffee pot the night before. hahahha!!!!
Fun giveaway, I too am a bit weepy. As much as I crave a little routine this time of year, it’s a harsh reminder (slap in the face) how old my kids are becoming!
Dana says
We try to have Katie’s backpack loaded up and ready to go the night before, but many mornings we are rushing around, getting her agenda signed, etc. We aren’t as organized as I’d like, but we always make time for breakfast, and Mini-Wheats are one of her favorites!
Amy Tong says
To make school morning a little easier, I pre-pack their school bags and some lunch items the night before. That way, putting their lunch bag in the morning is a breeze while the kids enjoy their breakfast.

With two kids in different schools this year, and a tardy time that’s 30 minutes earlier than last year (and did I mention that we aren’t morning people?), I’m packing lunch and picking out clothes the night before. My other new goal is meal planning over the weekend to prepare a list for my Monday trip to the grocery store.
TK says
Planning lunches for the entire week! I make a list and pick up all the ingredients early and do the cooking in advance.

Jody Burzinski says
We have everything laid out. I even make them get everything clear down to socks. We had manic mornings just looking for a particular pair before. I also get up and make sure I am completely ready before getting the kids up. It allows me to focus on their last minute needs without worrying if I am also ready for work. Of course we still have our morning meltdowns, but this does help.
Jessie says
I don’t have kids, unless you count the furbabies, but my husband is a professor so I still have to “get him ready for school everyday.” I iron his clothes the night before- just so he won’t wake me up with setting up the ironing board, auto program the coffee, and I pre-make a smoothie for him for breakfast, and a salad for him for lunch. Does this entry count? 😉
Kristen says
Totally 🙂
Sarah Caron says
For us, it’s all about routine. It makes the whole getting ready for school thing easier. Since we are all on the same page and know what needs to happen before the bus comes.

I encourage laying out clothes & packing up the backpacks & athletic bags the night before. But some times even the best plans cant predict slow moving mornings. So on those days we go for simple frozen bean & cheese burritos, peanut butter & honey sandwiches on toasted wheat bread with a protein breakfast drink. Teenagers dont care about cleaver meals. They just want to satisfy their hunger. So we try to have at least one fully prepared breakfast during the weekend.
Rosa says
My first (and only one so far) started preschool, and I’m just a weepy mess at how fast it went by. To make mornings easier, I have all of our stuff packed and ready for the morning to make things go smoother. That way, we can spend the morning at a relaxed pace and not rush through, with the risk of forgetting anything. Lunches, backpack, notes, etc. are all ready in the kitchen and breakfast stuff in the refrigerator to be heated up to eat. 🙂
Natalie @ Cooking for My Kids says
Sweet Kristen, I have been thinking about you a lot these past few days, so wishing that we were neighbors so that we could get through this summer to school transition together. The one thing that I am attempting this year to try to make school mornings easier is to make a menu that includes, not only dinner, but also breakfast, lunch, and snack. I need to have a starting point every day because my brain does not work in full gear early in the mornings. 🙂
Rachel @ Baked by Rachel says

Hectic bittersweet times…I hope you savor every moment and enjoy even the chaos of school beginnings. I always tried to be organized, but as you know it wasn’t always that way. Send everyone off with a hug and a kiss (even Jacob ). Kellogg’s best to you each morning!

YUM! My kids love frosted mini wheats! Have y’all had the new cinnamon roll flavored ones? Those are amazing.
I wake the kids up 10 minutes earlier than I actually think they need to get up, it helps with stretch time and gives them that.. one more bite time.

We do as much as we can before going to bed ON TIME. Backpacks are checked, gym bags are packed, outfits including hair accessories are chosen. We do a monthy review of the lunch menu and decide which days are “bring” days and which are “buy” days. On “bring” days, lunch is packed the night before. This helps with the grocery list too. School starts on Aug 27…waaaaahh!!
