Each Simplify Saturday, I feature a product, app, website, book, etc. that has helped me to live my 2013 focus word of Simplify. This week I am sharing a product that helps me simplify one of my least favorite tasks… mopping the floor.
Our house is mostly hardwood floors. As much as I love hardwood floors, I absolutely hate cleaning them. I’m not going to pretend that the tool I’m going to share with you today makes me love cleaning our floors because it doesn’t. The only thing that could possibly make me love cleaning is hiring someone else to do it. That would be love at first sight right there…
With that being said, I do love how the Hoover Twin Tank Steam Mop has simplified cleaning our hard surface floors in our house. No longer am I on my hands and knees with towels and a bowl of vinegar water to get the floor clean. Nor do I have to deal with a bucket of filthy mop water. The Hoover Twin Tank Steam Mop has made mopping the floor not a dreaded task. It lessens the amount of time it takes me to mop, which I greatly appreciate. It’s also the only product I’ve tried that makes mopping easy and gives me the peace of mind that the floor is actually getting really clean.
What do I love about this product? Well, first of all, the twin tanks is an awesome idea. On my tile and laminate bathroom floors I want more than just steam and water to clean with. I want something stronger that I know will do a good job. When I’m using the mop on those surfaces, I turn the setting to dispense both steam and the SteamPlus cleaning solution. On my hardwood floors, I really don’t want to use the cleaning solution, so I just adjust the setting to Steam Only. I really appreciate that Hoover has given me options based on what my cleaning needs are, recognizing that it isn’t always one setting fits all.
When I’m done mopping, I simply throw the reusable cleaning pads into the laundry and wash and dry them. Then they are ready to use the next time I mop. Cleanup is as simple as that!
The shape and swivel of the mop head makes it easy to clean around tight areas, like around toilets or underneath cabinets. The Hoover Twin Tank Steam Mop is light and thin, so it doesn’t take up a lot of storage space.
Hoover Twin Tank Steam Mop Simplify Snippets:
- The Hoover Twin Tank Steam Mop can be purchased on Amazon.com (currently for $87.50)
- In addition to the twin tank feature, I love that the Hoover Twin Tank Steam Mop has an extra long, 30 foot cord and comes with 3 disposable, microfiber pads
- The Hoover Twin Tank Steam Mop also has a Carpet Glider feature to refresh carpets and rugs… I haven’t used this feature although it’s a nice extra
Note: This is not a sponsored post. I simply like how this product has simplified our life and wanted to share it with you

I have never been disappointed in any Hoover product! Floor steamers are the BEST for sterlizing and making quick work of cleaning hardwood floors.!! You will love it especially in the winter/rainy seasons where everyone is tracking in mud and sludge 🙂

I wish I had this. I don’t like my steam mop.

I’ve always been afraid to use one of these, the contractor who installed out hardwood warned us to never use steam mops on hardwood as the steam gets into the pores more then standing water/moping does over time. Glad to hear its working for you!

I like/need steam cleaning, for health reasons. All units seen previously, were far too costly for our budget; this unit was on the sale table at Home Despot–I thot we could finally afford a steam cleaning unit.
Unfortunately, even at about $50, the Hoover Twin Tank steam cleaner was STILL overpriced for what it delivered!
IMHO, manufacturers & marketers take advantage of lower-income buyers by foisting off badly made units–it speaks to how their workers & manufacturing lines are treated/handled.
What the unit did:
==1st time used: hot stuff! It made great steam; had to wash the pad multiple times to finish the sq. ft. of floors, but it did about as expected.
I used the trigger often, to let out steam, especially on dirty spots, but, that seamed to let out too much moisture, so had to limit how often the trigger was used. Liked the design; it handled well.
Tried it on carpets: it removed a bit of grime, steamed well to kill mites; but, left too much water in the carpet–so figured, best only on solid surface floors.
This fails 1st intended use.
==2nd time used: less steam, but still seemed to be doing some job; rewashed the pad a few times as before, to do the whole job.
Used the trigger less, to try limiting how much water ended up on the floors.
This is starting to fail 2nd intended use: it’s causing more work, not less, as I needed to use rags/other dry mop to soak up the water left behind.
==Then the storage tray started having a lot of fluid puddling in it, so took the tanks off while stored–good thing it sat where it could be monitored, or it would have really messed up the closet!
==3rd time used: lots of water, hardly any steam–had to use mop/rags to clean up water, or it would have taken many hours to air dry.
==4th time, attempted use: -zero- steam; unit felt barely warm. Unit is FUBAR’d.
Water drizzled out both tanks where tanks connected with the unit.
Unit made NO sounds of making steam; unit was barely warm to touch.
Trigger did nothing.
Unit is total failure.
This unit has not been used enough to “get blocked” by mineral salts caused by steam, as a few others suggested.
The seals between tanks & unit failed.
The Heating unit failed.
It’s a defective unit.
From the posts on Amazon, quite a number of people got defective units.
Hoover’s production line is faulty, that they let out so many defective units for sale.
I understood that buying this on a closeout sale at Home Despot, there’s no returning it, & it’s been longer than 3 months.
Unless we can take it apart & fix it ourselves, it’s about to become an unfortunate chunk of landfill.
Shame on Hoover for allowing such shoddy products to be marketed!
