A simple Bean and Cheese Queso recipe featuring Bush’s Chili Beans.
I recently realized I do everything a bit backwards on my blog. While everyone has been posting their favorite super bowl recipes, I wait until the day after to share what I brought instead of what I would bring. I must be such a disappointment to those of you who plan ahead and scour the internet for the current trends.
I’m apparently trendless around here… only participating once things seem to be well out the door. This is not on purpose at all… it’s just how my life works. I have no need for a house full of Super Bowl appetizers unless I’m actually going someplace that requires appetizers. Just like you probably won’t see a bunch of Valentine’s recipes around here until after our big Valentine’s dinner. The last thing my thighs need is to be tempted by some of my favorite foods, simply to provide SEO related content for you.
With that said, here’s something to bookmark (or I guess Pin is what we do now, right?) for NEXT year and your Super Bowl celebration. Bush’s Chili Bean Cheese Queso using Bush’s Kidney or Chili Beans. I made this for a Super Bowl party we went to last night, and case in point… part of it was gone before we even left the house. I have no restraint, whatsoever.
This isn’t your traditional type of queso recipe. Don’t get me wrong…it’s incredibly cheesy. But the Chili Beans are the real star of the show.
You can find the recipe below the next picture, but before that, I wanted to share details about a recipe exchange and giveaway my friends Aggie and Laura are having in conjunction with Bush’s Beans!
Join Aggie’s Kitchen and Real Mom Kitchen to share a family favorite Winter Comfort Food recipe for the Bush’s Beans Recipe Exchange! Link up your favorite comfort food recipe using Bush’s Beans for a chance to win.
Two (2) winners will be chosen to win: Bush’s Beans coupons for 10 free cans, $100 Visa Gift Card and a Le Creuset Signature Enameled Cast Iron French Oven, 5.5 Qt. Round.

This recipe is good any day of the year!
Kristen says
Agreed – and breakfast, lunch and dinner 🙂
Barbara | Creative Culinary says
You are not alone Kristin. My blog is about what I prepare for family and friends…and I don’t prepare foods weeks in advance so that I can have them be popular online prior to an event…they ARE the event. 🙂
Besides…this looks good for anytime; who needs a football game anyhow?
Kristen says
I still don’t know who won last night… oops! Obviously I was at the party for the food. That was it 🙂
Katrina @ In Katrina's Kitchen says
This is SO me! I’m such a dipper 🙂
Kristen says
Me too – it’s a problem my scale doesn’t like very much.
Sommer@ASP says
Kristen, I love all that savory goodness! ….and the itty bitty skillet. 🙂
Kristen says
Isn’t that the cutest thing? $1 at Goodwill awhile back!
Natalie @ Cooking for My Kids says
Oh, Kristen. As always, I love you for being real, authentic, and, well, you. I have thought a lot about that very thing recently. Summer’s illnesses and surgery were so eye opening to me. In the end, the whole experience was a gift that I believe was God-given because it made me realize what is truly important. For me, it is making sure that I spend every spare minute with my sweet family, soaking up all of the memories. Yesterday, I was taking Super Bowl pictures, and Sean was trying to make the food look pretty for me. I told him, “No worries. These pictures are just for us!” It was quite freeing, actually. 🙂
Kristen says
I can totally relate to that, Natalie. Sometimes it just feels good to not have to have things be “pinteresting” all the time 🙂
Love you 🙂
Bree {Skinny Mommy} says
I can completely relate. I just can’t keep up! This dip looks ultra easy and delicous–yum!
Cassie | Bake Your Day says
Ha, I didn’t post a Super Bowl recipe AT ALL this year. Oh well. I will eat this kind of food any day!
Rachel Cooks says
I could eat this whole thing–it would be so dangerous around me!
Laura says
Last night I made sort of a copycat Chili’s Queso, which is really really good, but calls for a whole pound of Velveta. (gag). I love the look of this much better because it greatly reduces the amount of processed food. Plus I love Bush’s Chili beans. We used them all the time around here.
Rachel @ Baked by Rachel says
Fashionably late is how you should put it, and of course making everyone crave what they didn’t get yesterday!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
Truer words were never spoken ” The last thing my thighs need is to be tempted by some of my favorite foods, simply to provide SEO related content for you.” Amen sista! I had to cool it with Xmas cookie baking for that very reason 🙂
Sandy @ RE says
Oh, yummy yum yum! Thanks for sharing!
bridget {bake at 350} says
This looks so, so good, Kristen. Like, I could eat the entire thing by myself good.
And, um, yeah. I’m always posting Christmas cookies on Christmas Eve, etc. etc. Somehow, I am just never prepared to make things AHEAD of the season. If I were really organized, I’d make things and SAVE them for next year. Like that will ever happen.
naomi says
I’m laughing right now because I did the same thing for Super Bowl.. I made my tread the day of and will be posting it sometimes this week. lol..
LOVING this chili bean queso – so full of flavor and comfort!
Noble Pig - Cathy says
I would also eat that up before leaving the house. But yesterday I made your mushroom tostada…loved it!
Karly says
I’m not sure which I love more…the dip or the photos!
Bev @ Bev Cooks says
Ohhhhhhh. Oh my life. Oh my heart. I’m going in.
Dorothy @ Crazy for Crust says
Ha! My thighs don’t ever need anything. I could stop eating forever and they’d be fine. I love this dip! I’m pinning it for next year. 🙂
Wendy @ AMFT says
Sounds amazing! I think this would make a great addition to any party!
Chung-Ah | Damn Delicious says
I love that you posted this post-Superbowl! I mean in the end, that is the natural order of things because you would make this for the big day and then write about it. I’ve just been making Superbowl foods weeks in advance and then on the big day, I think we had Korean food.
Anyway, this queso is a must. Jason would devour this instantly!
Heidi @ Bits of Sunshine says
You are so not a disapointment! Ha! I do the same! I tend to share what i make too – not what i am going to make! Although this year I have been jacked up enough to share some valentines day things 🙂 getting there. This looks delish! So warm and comforting!
Kristen says
Well then I’ll definitley head over your way to get some Valentine’s Day inspiration 🙂
Aimee @ ShugarySweets says
Oh chili queso, you have my heart!!

Ashley Bee (Quarter Life Crisis Cuisine) says
I am so excited I have a cast iron skillet (Christmas gift, boo-yah!) so I can make it look this adorable! I looove baked beans but never thought to do this with them. Amazing!
Kristen says
Oh that’s a great Christmas present! Have fun using it 🙂 What’s the first thing you are going to make in it?
Mrs. L says
LOL, I’m like you…the football dip I made will go up this weekend, I’m rarely on trend with these things. Though I admit to having some dishes I made for last years celebrations that will have to get posted this year.
angela @ another bite please says
well i love it..one can eat apps anytime right ?! 🙂
Stephanie @ Eat. Drink. Love. says
This looks so good! I would eat this anytime!
Liz @ The Lemon Bowl says
As someone who doesn’t bake cookies for the holidays, post appetizers for football games (that we don’t watch) or share adorable Valentine’s Day desserts, I want to say THANK YOU! I am a huge fan of sharing recipes when you want to not when you think they will be the most PINtersting. And frankly, my thighs did not miss 12 days of cookies or 12 different versions of potato skins. xoxoxoxox
Heidi @foodiecrush says
Ha! You go miss trendless. I hate to tell you but you are always right on trend because no matter what you do it looks so temptingly delicious. Sorry to burst your bubble friend. Now when are you making this for me?
Sheila says
Kristin This IS WHY I LOVE YOU Gerl!! I am so not trendy either. It takes way too much effort, and complaints by my family that I’m cooking things out of order….why are we eating thanksgiving food on the 4th of July Wah wa wa hahah! I say us non trendy food bloggers gotta stick together! xoxoxo ; ) but then again…I am awful thankful for those FB that are trendy where the heck would we be when “the” day came with out them!
Autumn@Good Eats Girl says
Oh, goodness! I need to make this soon…this queso would be a hit in our house!
Caroline @ chocolate & carrots says
First of all, this looks amazing. Secondly, this skillet is so cute!
daniel says
It must be delicious. As a Valentine’s gift for my girlfriend I’ve just made a private booking for one of the courses organized by Zac’s cooking school here in Vancouver – cooking classes for couples and I think this recipe could be among the first ones we’ll try together. So it fits in perfectly with my romantic plans. 🙂
Jeff @ Cheeseburger says
This will be great for NBA game nights.
Angie says
I love queso dip, it’s one of our favs!
carrian says
I adore queso!! And I totally feel ya on the valentine’s treats temptations.
camille says
So here’s the deal. We’re getting a couple feet of snow tonight and tomorrow. Obviously, I’m not doing much of anything tomorrow. What I would like is to spend the afternoon watching movies and eating this dip.
Stephie @ Eat Your Heart Out says
Haha! Try as I might to get on the holiday bandwagon before the holiday has passed, I don’t always do so hot. And “hot food trends”? Forgetaboutit. Suuuuper slow on the uptake over here!
You’re killing me with this dip. Seeeeeriously, I want to faceplant in it.
katie says
This looks amazing! I think my husband and I would devour this tasty dip!
Lindsay @ The Live-In Kitchen says
I do the same thing on my blog! I just don’t have time and energy in my life to make things ahead of time. I guess it will always be there for next year!
Christy @ My Invisible Crown says
I’m starving and this looks amazing!!!
Naomi says
I love that you DONT post it ahead of time …. because that means you are living life … in real time! I still have to post about Chinese New Year (so yesterday) and things from over Christmas … and ….
(oh and the queso? DELIC!)
Autumn says
What is 1 ounce of chilli seasoning? I want to make this for a superbowl party this weekend 🙂 Sounds delish!
