As part of my 2012 focus word to “connect” more with others, I have decided to shoo away my Reluctant Entertainer and open up my home to others more often. Occasions big and small, I’m happier and my home is a happier place when we share it with others.
Budget is often something that we have to take into consideration when we entertain, so when Sam’s Club challenged me to create a menu on a budget for a get together, I jumped at the chance. My assigned budget was $60.00. I decided for a New Year type gathering (or even a Super Bowl party) snacks and appetizers were the way to go. Into my cart went:
- A package of large shrimp (For Panko Crusted Shrimp..recipe below) $11.98
- A bag of Italian Meatballs (For Game Day Meatballs) $13.98
- A package of Chicken Wings (For Oven Baked Chicken Wings) $13.98
- A large bag of Pretzel Crisps $5.98
- A box of Clementines $5.96
- A box of Red Grapes $7.98
- I picked up a Diet Coke fountain drink as a special treat for me $.89
- Grand Total: $59.65
With a few pantry staples to create the recipes, I think this makes for a quick and inexpensive entertaining menu, don’t you? I always appreciate when hosts set out fresh fruit to snack on. If it is there, I’m more likely to to munch on that versus chips, which my waistline appreciates! Sam’s Club has some of the best fresh fruit around, in my opinion, all season long!
When you think about entertaining in 2012, remember, you don’t have to break the budget to open your home to others. Shop smart, think simple, and shoo away your “Reluctant Entertainer“. Open your home and people will be thankful for your hospitality.
Entertaining is certainly more fun with the right equipment, right? How would you like to win a KitchenAid mixer so you can whip up more great things for your guests? Sam’s Club has offered to give one lucky Dine & Dish reader a new KitchenAid Professional Stand Mixer! To enter the giveaway simply leave a comment on this post telling me your best tip for entertaining on a budget.

Best tip is to buy what’s on sale and/or seasonal. Don’t try to serve a fresh blueberry dessert for 30 people in January. You’ll go broke 🙂

Buy in bulk and freeze what you don’t need for the party!
I say to go simple with food and try to incorporate hand-made or hand-crafted things. This saves you money and you can be proud of what you’ve created, whether decorations or food. This way you can spend more time with your guests and less time stressing!
Entertain on a budget by doing a little extra work yourself…don’t buy pre-cut veggies; buy chips and other snacks in bulk and portion them out yourself.
I’ve learned the hard way to keep it simple. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone overboard on food and/or decorations. Less is best – it’s about the guests.
When I entertain, I purchase store brands for basic items and I try to make as such as I can from scratch.
My best tip is to serve vegetarian food. Chose heart beans and grains 🙂
Simple flavors and lots of color! Plus, you can really change up cake mixes and make them your own without a ton of ingredients.

To help watch a budget I have every one bring their favorite dish. Itry to just spend the money on one main food item like the meat….. also use your own dishes and silverware so you aren’t just throwing out money.. its more of a pain yo wash but it will save u money.

Keep it simple!
Buy in bulk and what is in season – helps not only save money but also showcase seasonal ingredients.
I love buying our brisket at Sams Club. Paul Deen has an awesome brisket recipe that works great! The brisket feeds a bunch of people for around $20 and all you have to do is add a couple side dishes. Since others always want to bring something, take them up on the offer to bring something too!
My favorite way to entertain on a budget is to utilize less expensive cuts of meat and turn them into tasty treats!

If there is one thing my aunt (the queen of hors d’oeuvres) taught me, it is that your everyday leftovers can be turned into something spectacular. There’s no since in buying food when you have a fridge full of perfectly good leftovers!
Leftover asparagus? Cook with some onion, cheese and eggs and you have yourself a frittata!

My tip is to buy meat on sale & in bulk. I usually know about a month ahead of time (or more) when I’m going to entertain, and watching for meat sales is the biggest way I save. I freeze the meat when I purchase it and thaw it a day or so before the party!
I follow Sam’s Club on FB!
When entertaining on a budget… it’s always best to buy things in bulk and stick to buying stuff that you will also eat at home!
I shared on Facebook too!
Thanks to Marnely, (@nella22) for bringing this to my attention! I’ve always wanted one! Plus, I’m going to make that shrimp ’cause it looks DELICIOUS.
Buy ingredients in bulk and turn them into something special at home. Example, I just made a double batch of candied nuts from a recipe from Smitten Kitchen called Sugar and Spiced Candied Nuts. Delicious! Better than anything I can buy in the store and much cheaper too!
Entertaining earlier in the day means guests are more apt to just want snacks vs a meal. This translates to smaller portions which can mean preparing a variety of foods using less costly ingredients or serving fewer items, but with more costly ingredients (so the overall cost is still low). This gives hosts a fun way to try new “fancy” recipes without breaking the bank.
When I entertain to stay on a budget I do several things.i almost always buy in bulk. I try to keep apps simple but good. And with most of our friends we all contribute a dish or 2. Makes it fun no one stresses.
I tweeted this! 🙂
Make it a theme night and ask your guests to bring their favorite dish that goes with that theme. Then you all get to try something new and delicious.
My best entertaining tips are find cheap things that taste fancy! I have an amazing dip that’s just a can of chili, a package of cream cheese, and shredded cheese mixed together! Or a red pepper jelly over a block of cream cheese with crackers looks fancy, tastes awesome, and costs less than $5!
I would make a huge pot of ragu sauce w/ spaghetti (meatballs on the side), homemade sangria, garlic/cheese sticks..taramisu

Your shrimp looks delicious! We love to entertain, but you are right, it can be expensive. My best tip – ask everyone to bring something. (And then limit myself to the drinks and maybe one other thing…that’s hard for me).
My tip is to buy the store brands. Most of the time these are just as good as the brand name. Purchase items that has more quanity although it might not be as fancy.
I like Sam’s Club on Facebook
The first thing I do is make sure to not plan my menu until I see the ad circulars for the week. I plan my meal and appetizers based on the sales and of course what is available at my local Sam’s Club. For dessert I love to make homemade ice-cream and serve a fruit compote with it. It’s impressive to my guests but is actually inexpensive! I buy frozen fruit for the compote and the basic ingredients for a simple ice-cream is doable on a budget! If it’s a sit-down meal I’m not shy about purchasing rotisserie chickens from the store and simple doctoring them up with spices, herbs and stuffing them with lemons. I then slowly reheat them in the oven so that the flavors can infuse. And of course you have to shop for the season. In the winter sticking with things like root vegetables, pears, etc. makes sense. It’s really all about not getting an idea stuck in your head before you see what’s on sale and inexpensive at the time!
I like to make pasta for a crowd. It’s inexpensive, so you can afford to throw in a few quality ingredients to make it stretch AND make it fabulous. My favorite is a huge batch of spaghetti with a meaty slow-cooked tomato sauce.
Potluck! You get a good variety of great food without any one person putting out a lot of money.

I’d say, chop your own chocolate to add to cookies instead of buying chocolate chips – I do it quite often because not only does it taste fantastic, but it’s also usually less expensive!
My best tip for entertaining on a budget is simple: when one of the guests asks “what can I bring”, I tell them something they can bring and I make sure to keep it simple and affordable.
I’ve been a choir director for almost 25 years, and as the choir has grown, so have the parties! We usually have 60-80 people at a choir party now. One of our best ideas is to set a simple menu and then ask members to bring the completed dishes. For example, roast pork, rice pilaf and Greek salad. Those who aren’t cooking can bring a dessert or a beverage.
When no one wants to cook, we have a Pizza Potluck. After church, everyone calls in for pizza…picks it up and takes it to the party place. The host provides salad. And it’s BYOB. We always have a great time, it takes very little effort and the cost is low…especially when we have coupons!
Take a simple item and doctor it up with the seasonings and extra things you already have in your kitchen. Don’t buy something in a store because it looks fancy, make it fancy with your own personal touch.
My best tip for entertaining on a budget is plan ahead and stock up on staples during sales ヅ *Thanks* for the giveaway!

To entertain on a budget, I throw a themed potluck! Everyone sticks to the same budget, and is encouraged to be as frugal as possible, using any home-grown produce they can, to utilize coupons and clearances, to cook from their freezer and pantry, to buy in bulk then stretch and ‘re-purpose’ those ingredients no matter what they are. What seems to be limitations in fact encourages creativity, turning the event into a collective experiment and game.
My take on this is almost always desserts, and a kitchenaid mixer would certainly make these baking projects easier!

My best tip is if someone offers to bring something LET THEM!!! It takes a lot of pressure off of you and saves you a lil $$!
I ask guests to bring something to help share in the cost, plus I always use coupons and this sets the menu. A KitchenAid Mixer would be helpful in making lots of different dishes.

Plan ahead…
Best tip for feeding a crowd cheap is mexican food! Everyone love is and it’s easy to make, beans and rice are so cheap… a roast in the crockpot covered with salsa and mexican spices will turn into devine shredded beef for burros or bowls. Add margaritas and fun and you have a great party. 🙂
Casual entertaining is the best. Relax and enjoy your guests.
Time management.
I love having potluck-type meals. Everyone participates and yet we are still able to open up our home without as much stress and $$.
Entertaining on a budget… I usually just make everything from scratch, less cost & preservatives than the boxed ready to cook meals.

the way I do entertaining on a budget is by using inexpensive staples like eggs, potatoes, pasta… these also lend themselves to make-ahead dishes, which frees you up to enjoy your guests. And I totally agree that if someone asks what they can bring, you need to take them up on it!!!
My tip for entertaining would be to recycle decorations. Buy decorations that will work for many occasions that you can add a little this or that to and make it suitable for the occasion and then you can afford to spend more on the food for the party. There is a big difference in food quality on some items and some you can get away with less expensive brands. If you haven’t tried it before the party don’t try it FOR the party. It may cost you more in the long run if you do not like the outcome. kudos’ to you for the excellent give-a-ways. I hope i win. I have an aspiring chef (my granddaughter) who would love this. Absolutely love it. Sharing to FB. Cathy Smith

I like to make up a super big batch of meatballs I have made using ground beef, ground pork and ground turkey. I make up at least two different sauces, 1 B B Q and the other sweet and sour. I can then serve them on a platter with pretty tooth picks or serve with steamed rice. To make the meatball mixture go farther I add a box or two, depending on the number of meatballs I am making I add a box of a seasoned stuffing mix, such as stove top stuffing.
After holidays, it is fun to go shopping for tablecloths/paper plates, etc. to match the occasion. They’re always at least 50% off. Store them in a closet and bring them out the next year. You have all new “decorations” at a minimum price!

So many tips…where to begin? Be smart and know prices and check sales. Don’t wait to the last minute. Buy protein when it’s on sale. I always have some type of seafood in the freezer and bacon too. Great combo! Shop smart and don’t buy out of a box!

Great article! I have a huge party every year with over 100 guests, and my budget is usually $2 a person. I make a huge taco bar with ground beef and pulled grilled chicken. I make salsa homemade instead of buying it which saves a ton of money. Guests can choose from tacos, taco salad, and nachos and gussy them up however they want. I even put out a corn and black bean salad as another protein for vegetarians. Everyone can fix their plates how they want and it’s easy on my time and my wallet. Keep posting!

i love to host a potluck! maybe a little too cheap, but its always fun to see what everyone brings(:
having other people bring dishes always helps!
A potluck is always a great idea! It takes pressure off the host and adds a little variety to the meal. I’ve discovered that people really like sharing their special dishes!
Serving just a few, delicious dishes like the one above and skipping the old, outdated, obvious ones keeps the cost down and the guests happy!

A fun and inexpensive way to entertain is to have a progressive supper. One couple would host the appetizers and then the next couple would host the main meal and go to another couple’s house for the dessert. Of course, the couples would have to live in close proximity.

When your enertaining on a budget, just like a lot of others have said, potluck is the best way to go. You also have a good variety too!
One way to save is to make your own ‘trays’. Cut up the veggies Oneself arrange them on a tray or nice platter. Same thing with meat and cheese trays.
Canning pickled beets, pickles of different varieties, fruits, condiments, etc. I am a master at the relish dish – and can’t compare prices to what it would cost to go out & buy the stuff!

I try to look for recipes with primary ingredients that I already have (flour, sugar, milk, butter, eggs, etc.) and build from there. I find that h’orderves go a long way because they are portioned out and people tend to be polite about grabbing whole plates full of one item.

Keep it simple! Sometimes the best and most elegant food is made from simple, inexpensive ingredients. And it you have the time, made things from scratch instead of buying them pre-made or from a mix, it’s usually less expensive to do it yourself!
Make lots of dips! Pretty inexpensive and they go far!
My tip is to have a group of friends plan an international theme menu together. We use a different country each time. The person acting as hostess prepares the main dish decided upon by the group. Then each individual is given a recipe for a side dish or dessert, keeping to the theme. There are lots of ethnic foods available at Sam’s Club, which makes shopping for an international dinner menu. Hostesses rotate each month and, in fact, can work as a team to minimize the cost.

I think you could serve a nice homemade veggie soup for a budget conscious meal. Pair it with a fresh, crusty loaf of bread, a simple salad perhaps and an inexpensive bottle of wine. For dessert you could make a fruit cobbler/crisp or just serve ice cream. I think the pleasure of sharing a simple meal with good friends is the best kind of entertaining.

My entertaining on a budget hint is to light candles! It makes everyone feel like they are at a special event!
Buy stuff for entertaining all the time to take advantage of sales and coupons.
I don’t typically entertain – but when I do, I:
1. Ask for help
2. Keep it super simple
3. Prep as much as possible (even finding foods that can be served room temp)
4. Create a warm and inviting atmosphere by lighting candles
5. Have the food where it is accessible from all sides
6. Laugh!
We enjoy entertaining friends and it’s the most fun when everyone contributes part of the meal. We’ll assign appetizer, side dishes and dessert to visiting friends and we provide the entree. Everyone feels involved and appreciates the meal.
I really do watch my grocery dollar but when I entertain I find that I splurge a little bit. What helps out is if someone ask to bring something I may have them bring wine.
I am a fan of KISS – Keep it simple Sister! Your guests are coming to enjoy your company…. they don’t care about a seven course meal or over the top decor!

My best tip is to host a party where the guests bring things – but with a twist. For example – host a party where everyone brings something from Sam’s Club! This showcases the various items a particular store sells, and gives everyone a chance to try things they wouldn’t normally try. Make the invite clever & fun and your guests won’t realize that they are supplying the food!

Accept help when it is offered..can be before the party or durning the event..makes me feel good and the one who offered. Sometimes best parties turn out to be in the kitchen
My friends and I all share the expenses. We all bring a piece of the party so no one person is left with the bill. We started doing this years ago when the economy tanked……so it saved money from going out!!!! So we just started a roving social circle at the different homes.

When buying items such as linens, buy items that can be used for many different events, instead of buying a Christmas tablecloth or napkins, this makes them useful for more than one event/holiday. Before buying serving ware put out feelers to close friends and family to see what can be borrowed.
I always try to keep everything (except wine & beer) to a minimum. Then people aren’t kicking themselves (or me) when they overindulge.
Have lots of little snacks that require no cooking to keep people full early on.
When I entertain on a budget, I usually throw a pot-luck! Most of my friends ask to bring stuff anyway, so it is just easier to let everyone share the cost of the food! 🙂
I’m a fan of Sam’s on FB!
I am also a fan on Facebook.
I love to entertain and when I do it is always on a budget, my secrets range from making homemade food, having friends and family help out with a dish if offered and making my own decorations for parties.
I love having people over, and during colder weather I always fix large pots of homemade chili or beef stew. I love one pot meals easy to fix and even easier to clean up!
I shared this on FB!
I always try to keep the ingredient list to a minimum, and just finding ways to revamp them in other dishes. Therefore, it cuts down on the cost.
Turn the get together into a potluck. Ask everyone to bring something.

I like Sams club on FB.
My #1 tip is to definitely not try to do it on my own. For the most part, people really don’t mind helping out and it makes it a much more enjoyable experience for the host. Also planning ahead and prepping things ahead of time can be a BIG help.
I love to have fondue parties! Each couple makes a pot with all the fixings and we have interactive fun and great food!!
I shared the link on Facebook also.
My best tip is a potluck and have everyone bring a copy of the recipe to share!
How do I entertain people on low budget? I am a vegetarian so But obviously my menu will be vegetarian but I make it in a way that it involves everyone to participate. Like last time I had fondue (Both cheese and chocolate) on menu as appetizer and it was pretty entertaining and involving. For main course I made pasta, roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes and a salad. For dessert I made black forest trifle and the party was amazing and affordable with satisfying menu. I even prepared goody bags filled with homemade delicacies like scones, hot chocolate sticks, barks etc…which helped me financially and my guests were happy to enjoy that in their breakfast the next day!

What a great recipe but I almost never entertain. Maybe I should take a que from you and invite people over
My tip is to make everything from scratch–as few prepared foods as possible. Buying prepared foods makes it easier sometimes (though often not as much as you might think), but is almost always more expensive.
My best tip is pasta and lots of bread. When we are on a tight budget that’s the way I go. Plus I love pasta and bread so that’s a bonus.
keep it simple
I like to make my own dips. Ranch for veggies. Maybe some hummus. You get a lot more for your money, plus it’s fresh and you can control the ingredients.
Pizza party!!
My tip is to keep things simple! People remember that you had them over, not what you fed them. My favorite entertaining treat is a recipe I got from my cousin. Halve large cherry tomatoes and cielinge, small (about 1 inch diameter) mozzarrella balls I get at Trader Joe’s. Cut the mozzarella balls in half if you want to make it stretch even more. Drizzle with good olive oil and balsamic vinegar, sprinkle with coarse sea salt and ground pepper to taste. Serve with small slices of French bread (also good for soaking up olive oil). Another variation is to thread a mozzarrella ball and a cherry tomato on toothpicks.

I like to make a lot of Hors d’oeuvres, such as cheese trays, instead of a full meal menu, our guests like to bring the wine, which saves a bit when on the budget. For decorating, we light a lot of candles and throw bit of ribbon around the table.

I say make it a pot luck. Whenever we have friends over or go over to a friends house we offer to bring a dish to contribute to the meal. It makes it less work for the host and more cost effective.
I shop sales and look at the ads to get items I’m going to need ahead of time for a little less
I like the idea of a potluck
My best tip is to buy in bulk, as at Sam’s!
Have everyone bring a dish!
Serve a meal! So many times hosts choose to serve finger foods, but it’s much less expensive to make one very delicious filling meal vs. having 10 different finger foods!
I like the concept of having all your guest bring a dish!! It saves you money and a lot of stress!
I buy things for entertaining when they’re on sale, a little bit at a time that way it’s not a big expense when we have friends over.
Utilizing pantry items first. Inexpensive pasta,a big salad and sangria really help to stretch the budget.
Use your own dishes, flatware and cups instead of buying paper and plastic. Do a potluck and have guests bring a dish.
Shopping at Sams Club is a great way to entertain on a budget!!!
I try to stock up on certain food items that I know I will use often and that can be stored, when they are on sale or I have coupons. That way when it comes to making my menu for entertaining, I already have many of the ingredients on hand, thus making the party or get-together much less expensive.
I like Sam’s Club on Facebook!
My best tip on entertaining on a budget is assign peole to bring stuff. They want to help out anyway, so go ahead and let them! Many times I have someone bring the paper goods and that helps out a lot! I usually buy the meat and have everyone else bring sides and desserts. I provide the drinks also. Most people like to be “told” what to bring, so they don’t have to think about it! 🙂
I like SAMs on FB!!!!! 🙂

Don’t try and do it all yourself. Ask for help (I still have a hard time doing this). Get a sitter for the kids (have never down this but sure wish I could). Oh wait, was I suppose to tell you what I do or my wish list for my parties? Would LOVE a mixer!!
Finger foods! Little portions but people feel like they’ve eaten a lot. 🙂 Or if you want to go the extra-cheap route, potluck!!!
I do a lot of dips. They seem to go farther than some finger foods. I usually have people bring something they would want to snack on as well.
I shared this on my facebook page!
I’m a fan of Sam’s club on facebook.
I make my own dips, serve it with crackers or vegetables. Also make filling things like meatballs in sauce. We also have a lot of get-to-gethers where everyone brings a dish.

good way to help entertain on a budget? have SMALL plates – people will feel like they are getting full plates, but will be taking less (and wasting less!)
Do a pot luck so everyone brings a dish so one person dont have to cook all the food.
Budgeting tip would be to have a chips in a bag party 🙂 You can have everyone bring in a topping and you supply the mini chip bags. Easy clean up, easily able to socialize around the room with food and entertainment.

EASY POTLUCK PARTY! Everyone brings in a li’l something and that way everyone can eat and have a merry ol’ time.
Try “Stone Soup”…have each person bring a cup or two of something to add to an already simmering soup…then read the story while waiting for the soup to finish!

An easy way to entertain on a budget is to have people bring something, like a potluck dinner. You can supply the main course and maybe alcohol or drinks, and have guests bring a side or desserts or snacks 🙂
At our get-to-gethers….we have everyone bring an appetizer/soup/or salad along with the recipe to pass on to everyone. You never know what you’re going to get but it is always different and yummy.
Already a fan of Sam’s Club on Facebook.
Small plates sure save on the total amount of food people eat.
My best tip is planning. Have a menu and a schedule and that will go a long way to saving money and time.

I love the term “Reluctant Entertainer!” I haven’t had friends over in forever. I fret that my house is too small, dust is too thick, bathroom the wrong color, and the list goes on. Brunch!
Use budget stretching recipes. Do you know how many people a flank steak will feed if it’s sliced thinly and served on a salad?
Use uncomplicated recipes, like comfort food. I make speghetti, but use shredded chicken in lieu of beef (Brown your chicken the deglaze pan with a little wine. Finish cooking the chicken in the wine, then shred. Add the whole mess to your fav marinara).

Appetizers or small bites is the best way to entertain on a budget. One of my favorites is beef sticks. Buy a london broil steak (cheap) from the grocery store and ask the butcher to slice it 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick into strips. Combine 2Tbsp sugar, 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 Tbsp oil, spring onions and garlic, mixing thoroughly. You can add water if you need to stretch the marinade to cover all the meat. Marinate the meat strips overnight and then thread them through bamboo skewers. Broil until meat is cooked and serve. (You can make a dipping sauce if you like, but the flavor is really good without.)

My tip for entertaining on a budget is plan your menu in advance, watch for sales and try to use what you already have in the house. I know it sounds like common sense but when you put your mind to it you can make new dishes with very little shopping and using what you already have on hand.

The best way for me to entertain is to make a big pot of chili :). (at least in the winter months) it’s cheap and easy to make and the sides (such as chips, sour cream, & cheese) are fairly cheap as well.
I’m a fan of putting out tons of fruit. Not too expensive, and even the health conscious say thank you.

I always do pre maid and home made when keeping to a budget while entertaining. Somethings are more affordable to buy then make and somethings are more affordable to make than buy. I always do it semi hmemade though, it keeps down expenses.

sams club is a great place to shop when shopping in bulk. i find it best to plan ahead and be prepared to shop a little at a time and look for ideas on the way. a new mixer in my home would just make my new year along with personally always wanting one of my own instead of gazing at them as i walk by.lol

My best tip for entertaining on a budget is getting the “3 Buck Chuck” wines from Trader Joe’s. They are surprisingly good, especially for the price!
My tip for entertaining is to plan ahead and not second guess yourself.
I have several tips for entertaining, but my favorite one is “remember it’s only an event, not the pivotal moment of your life. Let people help, and don’t think about the things you couldn’t do; nobody knows you meant to make new curtains for the living room/buy new towels for the guest room/create a french bistro tray of petite pastries/etc.” About 30 minutes before people arrive, light a candle in each public restroom and any outdoor seating spaces. It creates a warm welcome and encourages people to wander rather than huddle in one tiny space.
I don’t usually do a lot of formal entetaining…but I find it best to keep it simple and casual. Do something that’s easy, that u know u do well. The simpler the better for me when it comes to saving money on entertaining!

I dont get to do too much entertaining, but asking guests to contribute in a sort of pot luck fashion or creating a “bar” where guests can create their own version of something is pretty easy and budget friendly!
Do as much prep ahead of time – to enjoy the party!
Potluck is the way to go! Provide a few staples or a main dish, then ask everyone to bring a side or desert. Plus this way you get a better variety and might try something new ! Themed potlucks are fun too 🙂

I love entertaining friends and family at our home! We had gotten out of the habit of doing it until recently though. I like to pick up my own veggies and create a veggie and dip tray on my own. I can get all of the veggies we like AND they haven’t been sitting there for a few days before I serve them. Fresher and cheaper!
I’m huge on sam’s club for ingredients and also on potluck. I can have people pover and entertain, but also have them bring in items that fit the theme. I also will have it be a BYOB, for two reasons, one I don’t drink and two, not buying booze leaves me more $ to spend on food!
I’m a fan of Sam’s Club on FB!
I’m a fan of Sam’s Club a regular shopper there too! When we shop at Sam’s it always makes extra so I fresh my tasty treats so we always get a least a double dose of our favorites and save money… I would love to win this mixer – I had my mothers that she used which was about 50 years old and it finally gave out so my kitchen would love a new one!!
Basing the menu off what is currently on sale is the best way to go when entertaining on a budget.
My best tip for entertaining on a budget is to focus on a few dishes and not make enough of every dish for three times the number of invited people.

IT was quiet around here on New Year’s, but we are planning a big bash next weekend for the Packers playoff game. Your shrimp sound fantastic, but I want to know what you did with the clementines.
I usually focus on a starch such as rice, pasta, potato, and center the meal on that grain, then simply add a small amount of animal protein to it, such as a few shrimp, some braised cheaper cut of meat, hamburger, chicken, or pork., such as pasta with shrimp, or pork stew, or sweet and sour meatballs on rice with vegies. The meat is simply an accent to the rest of the dish.
For entertaining on a budget, get your guests onboard! Have everyone bring a dish.

Buying bulk size snacks and goodies at Sam’s Club is the best tip for economical entertaining. Sodas too! For more upscale entertaining, their frozen snacks are good choice. Keeping the food simple, and homemade, that’s how I plan a party on a budget.
I tweeted.
I posted on my Facebook page.
I liked SAMs club on facebook!
I stock up when things are on sale so when I need to entertain I already have my freezer or pantry stocked!
I love being able to make ahead everything and then just set it out or warm it up when it is time.

To entertain on a budget I like easy finger foods that can just be popped into the oven, not to much prep.

My best tip is to not overcook. When there is too much food at the end of the party, the extras are either distributed (which may or may not be consumed by the guests later) or the hosts are forced to eat them which again might not happen.

My best tips for entertaining on a budget is to plan ahead. Use fruit and veggies that are in season currently with your meal as these are usually on sale.

I like to entertain friends by having a dessert and coffee bar in the evening – it doesn’t entail the expense that a meal would but it’s still fun and lets me show off my mad baking skills. Brew plain coffee (unflavored), have bowls of chocolate chips, mildly sweetened whipped cream, packets of sugar and sugar substitute, a couple of sweet liqueurs; and then have plates of different kinds of homemade cookies, arrange an assortment of fresh fruit in a bowl, put out a serving board (or plate) with a chunk of a soft mild ripened cheese, a firm piquant cheese, and a salty or sweet cheese along with some water crackers and a few nuts, and finally put something spectacular (cheesecake, bundt cake, layer cake, etc) on a pedestal with plenty of plates, cups, napkins, knives, forks and spoons so everyone can sample and enjoy.
Entertaining on a budget. Search circulars for items that are on sale the week of your party and plan your menu based on what is on sale.

I always like to prepare as much ahead of time as possible and make just enough food so everyone is happy, but there are few, if any, leftovers.
We lower the cost by all getting together and everyone brings something. That way no one person has to spend a lot.

We like to have lots of parties and the best way we’ve been able to cut costs is to do a pitch-in.
I am a fan of Sam’s Club on Facebook.
I choose my main dish (meat) based on what is on sale the previous week or two since that is usually the largest expense for entertaining company.
I just became a fan on Sam’s Club and I wish I did it long ago as I am a member 🙂
Maybe now it will win me the mixer though!
I shared it also on my Facebook!
Use everyday ingredient in a different form – last bits of sandwich bread can be repurposed as spicy bread crumbs that jazz up plain-jane chicken strips. Or marinate slivers of that common chicken breast onto skewers with bites with veggies & fruit. And you can make anything look more glamorous when presented well. You’d be amazed how many new compliments I get for my good-ole recipes I serve over & over again when I use cloth-lined basket or festive tray with multiple tiers!

You’ve already hit on it… but the best tip I have is to buy in bulk – keep the menu simple – as in not a lot of different selections 🙂
I plan my meal around things I have on hand. And if a guest asks “what can I bring”, I actually have them bring something! I hate to go to other’s homes without a dish, and I assume others like to bring a little something as well!
I’ve been planning banquets and parties for church for a while now, and as cliche as it may sound… the very best way to save money while entertaining on a budget has got to be cooking/baking most of the edibles. Decorations and flowers, I go to the flower district in downtown and buy by the dozens and stop by the crafts store with big sales going on every time I go.

My tip is to go with potluck; definitely let your guests help with the food/drinks. I never turn down an offer of help, and most people are happy to bring something.

Best tip for entertaining on a budget is to be willing to ask for help. Most people are willing to bring a dish or beverage to share, especially if you make a theme that they can participate with – like a favorite dip party!

I like to make lots of small treats!
The easiest tip for entertaining on a shoestring is to make the gathering a “Pot-Luck” so that each guest can bring a dish to share. Makes the evening more enjoyable and is a way to try new recipes at the same time.
I like to provide a variety of small things, and ask others to bring their favorites.
seriously: 2 packs of lil smokies, 1 1/2 cup of your fave bbq sauce, 1 1/2 cup ketchup, 1 cup brown sugar (less if your bbq sauce is sweet), a crockpot and some toothpicks. best thing for getting people together and staving off hunger while the main event is cooking 😉

Awesome giveaway! I love potlucks for entertaining a crowd on a budget! 🙂
Entertaining on a budget has always been about planning ahead and budgeting . I try to plan my menu items on coupons and sales. Plus I keep baking essentials in the pantry at all times, stocking up with sales! No matter what I decide to bake, I usually have the ingredients.
Would love to win the Kitchen Aid Mixer!! I love entering these giveaways, although, I have yet to win one! Love the recipes, and can’t wait to try the shrimp recipe for a family gathering!

I raid my pantry. I always have SOMETHING in my pantry just waiting to expire. Rather than letting it expire I will just go through it with a fine toothed comb every few months and pull out EVERYTHING that needs to be used and plan meals around whats already in there. Its wonderful. And really costs me nothing but a little sneezing from the dust.
Lovely potluck, lovely price, as usuall. Fan on Fb. For entertaining we like dips with spices, made from sour cream. Using salt sticks to dip in. Garlic and provance favour is favorite in my family 🙂

My best tip for entertaining on a budget is some crockpot love! You can make all sorts of yumtastic things in a crockpot that yield large quantities for entertaining groups of friends or family. 🙂
I’m a Fan of Sam’s Club on Facebook. Thanks!
I like to make one item that will “Wow” everyone and then serve with simple salads and other items that use mostly staples I always have in the pantry. Everyone loves to try something new and fun which also helps with converstions and then if the rest is good but simple everyone is satisfied but has a memorable time.
Have everyone bring a dish (organize it so everyone doesn’t bring all brownies or all chips). A nice crockpot main dish and buffalo wings are crowd favs and easy for the host.

I buy stuff (mainly paper goods, but also some food) when they’re on sale, or when I find good coupons and save them for when I’m having guests.
We have ” Lucky Pot” styled gatherings – where each family contributes a dish on a specified ingredient. The host of the Dinner Party / Gathering is responsible for delegating each ingredient for individual families.

Try the many cheeses available at Sams Club. You can make a whole party around a cheese tasting along with an assortment of breads and crackers and a few good drinks.
France will be guided by 1998 champion Didier Deschamps from the
sidelines, a mentor who managed to flip the tables in the 2nd leg of the playoffs and send out Ukraine’s relaxation-certain mindset up in
smoke. This is in fact the most unpredictable staff and one particular that can make bookmakers sigh at any
time – no one understands – will they be spectacular as in 1998 and 2006 or mediocre as in 2002 and 2010.
All that can be ascertained is that they have some very worthwhile players, but it really is
up to them to create the a lot-essential chemistry and make France excellent
again.
