Spicy Crab Bisque for Two {Weekly Reads}

A review of the cookbook Dinner for Two as well as the books The Bell Jar and The Good Neighbor. Plus an amazing Spicy Crab Bisque for 2 recipe!

I really struggled fitting in reading time this past week…it may have had a little something to do with the fact that I introduced my son to the Friday Night Lights series and we may have spent 2 days straight binge watching the first 2 seasons. Oooops! I know this much about reading, if you want to be a voracious reader and consume lots of books, TV is something you can’t get sucked into. I like to multi-task when I watch TV but I can’t multi-task when I read. Reading requires pretty much my full, undivided attention!

With that said, I did get two books read this week plus I’m sharing a review of my favorite “Date Night” cookbook with you! Let’s get started……

Smoothies… I love them and my kids love them. They truly make serving a nutritious breakfast easy! The only problem is, I tend to lack creativity in the smoothie making department. I often go for an easy strawberry/banana smoothie 99% of the time. No one really complains about it, but why continue to do the same thing over and over when there are so many different smoothie mashups out there? It was high time my world was opened up to the wonderful world of smoothies!

The Pioneer Woman Cooks Cookbook Giveaway x 3!

I’d like to tell you a little story about two bloggers. Two bloggers who sat down at their respective computers 7 years ago and started their blogs. Two bloggers who love their dogs very much and both happen to have four kids.

One blogger lives in the country. She has a little ranch in the middle of Oklahoma and likes to take pictures of her horses and cows. Over the past 7 years she has worked so hard and has built an entire empire out of her little blog. She has written something like 300 books (ok slight exaggeration), has her own awesome tv show on The Food Network, has an enormous fan base, and pretty much has become the Oprah of the blogging world. She somehow manages to be a great mom to 4 kids, work on the ranch, homeschool her children and keep up with 5 different and very entertaining sections of her blog. Many of you know and love her as The Pioneer Woman.

The other blogger would be me. And, well. Hmmmm. Let’s move on.

Homemade with Love {Recipe: Herbed Skillet Croutons}

An interesting thing has been happening in the world of blogging over the past couple of years. You may have noticed the surge in “from blogger to book deals” happening. It seems like every time I open my browser, I see an announcement of a blogger who is now writing a cookbook.

There are some incredibly talented bloggers out there who have taken their success from their blog to the publishing world and have created some beautiful works of art. Over this next week, I’m going to highlight recipes from some of the cookbooks that have come across my desk recently from bloggers I am happy to call friends. I receive a lot of cookbooks in the mail…and I get to smile big when I see it is the cookbook of a friend. I know a lot of talented people and know how much heart and soul goes into putting a cookbook together. The books I’m sharing this week are some of my newest favorites. I hope you enjoy the peek into the books and order a copy or two of your own.

Cookie dough waffles!” I’d never heard of such a combination, but sure enough, when I grabbed my friend Lindsay’s cookbook, I found that there was a recipe for Belgian Cookie Dough Waffles with Chocolate Whipped Cream. I used to stand by the glass counter, staring longingly into the dessert case, hoping my parents would budge and buy me one of the little “parfait buckets”. Banana Cream pie, strawberry shortcake, triple chocolate brownie… all made even more appealing by their presentation in a clear, little container.

My Grandpa was my only ticket to ever getting these desserts… I knew every time we’d head to lunch together, a single serving dessert of my choice would be in my future. Sitting in the local KFC, eating little parfait buckets together, is still one of my favorite memories of time spent with my Grandpa….
