The Age of Innocence

8653928504_fd4165ff7a_o

My 11 year old son came home from school Monday afternoon and noticed that I seemed on edge, worried and uneasy. When I told him what had happened at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, near where my friends had been racing and observing, he was shocked. "Why would someone do that? It doesn't make sense!" I watched him try to wrap his brain around the why...why would someone intentionally do something like this? Finally, unable to come to grips with such such senseless acts of violence, he said, "Mom, I don't think you need to worry. I'm sure the explosion was just from an oil spill or something." I wish, my friends, that we could all know that kind of innocence again. Where things like someone intentionally blowing up fellow humans for no reason, was so far out of reach to be true. I wish it wasn't our reality. I have some really great recipes I want to share with you, but I just can't. I get so wrapped up in things like this...seeing the unfathomable take place to innocent people. It's just too much and I can't pretend it's not happening. In the meantime, I ask that you please give as much attention to the victims of this horrible crime as we are to the suspects. Sean Collier, Krystle Campbell, Martin Richard, and Lingzi Lu...they are whose names we need to remember in the coming months and years. We owe it to them.  In addition, there are victims who still have their lives, but who have lost so much. Please remember to keep them in your prayers. What … [Continue reading]

Homemade with Love {Recipe: Herbed Skillet Croutons}

Italian-Herb-Skillet-Croutons

An interesting thing has been happening in the world of blogging over the past couple of years. You may have noticed the surge in "from blogger to book deals" happening. It seems like every time I open my browser, I see an announcement of a blogger who is now writing a cookbook. There are some incredibly talented bloggers out there who have taken their success from their blog to the publishing world and have created some beautiful works of art. Over this next week, I'm going to highlight recipes from some of the cookbooks that have come across my desk recently from bloggers I am happy to call friends. I receive a lot of cookbooks in the mail...and I get to smile big when I see it is the cookbook of a friend. I know a lot of talented people and know how much heart and soul goes into putting a cookbook together. The books I'm sharing this week are some of my newest favorites. I hope you enjoy the peek into the books and order a copy or two of your own. … [Continue reading]

Recipe: B.A.T. Pasta Salad with Avocado Ranch Dressing

Bacon Avocado Tomato Pasta Salad with Avocado Ranch Dressing

Have you ever enjoyed a B.A.T. sandwich?? B.A.T. is what I prefer over a B.L.T. Skip the lettuce and replace it with a tasty avocado. Talk about flavor! Yum! I decided to take that favorite sandwich of mine and turn it into a pasta salad. Cinco de Mayo is coming up and you know you'll be asked to bring something to go alongside the nachos and margaritas. Although this isn't really Mexican, it has such fresh flavors and with avocado and bacon as ingredients, I don't think anyone will complain one bit!   … [Continue reading]
