First up is Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. Oh, how I loved this book. This book is categorized as Young Adult, but don’t let that deter you from reading it. Eleanor & Park is a hear warming and sometimes heart wrenching story of a deep and meaningful friendship that is told over the course of a year. As these two teenage misfits get to know each other, they begin to fall in love – this love story will take you right back to your first, young love and will ignite those same butterflies all over again. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, your heart will break just a little, and you’ll experience the most intense hand holding scene, ever. I highly recommend Eleanor & Park and gave it 5 stars on Goodreads.

Since I loved The Fault in Our Stars by John Green so much, I decided to give another one of his books a chance, and I was not disappointed. Looking for Alaska is a story about a young man who leads a pretty boring, non-existent life in a small town. When he makes the choice to go to a prestigious boarding school, his life changes from boring to intense over night…all because he meets Alaska Young. This is another Young Adult book (seemed pretty grown up for that, but that’s probably my naivety) that deals with some pretty heavy issues, but still in a light hearted, tender way. I really enjoyed Looking for Alaska and gave it 4 stars on Goodreads.

I originally picked up the book Go Ask Alice after I read that Eleanor & Park was being banned from a library in Nebraska (which seems ridiculous to me, but that’s for a different time, different day.) A friend of mine mentioned she remembered the same hubbub happening with Go Ask Alice when she was in high school, so I became curious and decided to check it out. Go Ask Alice is the anonymous journal of a teenage girl who takes the path of drugs and destruction. It’s a parents nightmare kind of book… sweet, good girl turned bad once she begins hanging out with a friend who introduces her to drugs for the first time. Alice becomes hooked and documents her struggles with addiction real time through her journal. Go Ask Alice was ok…it was scary and eye opening, but not my favorite book. I gave it 2 stars on Goodreads.

If you are looking for a meaningful chapter book to read with your child, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo is one you must pick up. The premise of the book sounds bizarre (a rabbit “doll” takes a long journey discovering the true meaning of love) but the story is anything but. Heart warming, engaging, tender and more, I think you and your kids will really enjoy reading this book. I gave The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane 5 stars on Goodreads (and so did my daughter, Kelly!)

I’m keeping this short and sweet…The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gailman has received so many rave reviews but it totally was not my thing. I should have read that it was Fantasy, which is not a genre I enjoy, so I shouldn’t have even picked it up in the first place. I gave it 2 stars on Goodreads, which was simply because it’s obvious Gaiman is a master at fantasy storytelling.

I really enjoyed Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt. In 1987 June Elbus favorite uncle Finn dies from AIDS. It was an era where no one really knew about AIDS so a lot of questions went unanswered. The man who June’s family called “the murderer” of Finn(his boyfriend, Toby) reaches out to June after the funeral and what develops is an unlikely secret friendship that changes both June, Toby and the Elbus family for good. I gave Tell the Wolves I’m Home 5 stars on Goodreads (would have given it 4 1/2 if that was an option).

I love the Prey Series by John Sanford. They are based in the area that my husband grew up, so we are very familiar with the landmarks.
One of my favorite recent reads was Gone Gork. It was a book I just couldn’t put down, but I definitely didn’t like the ending. It felt as though it ended rather abruptly or like the writer just have up and quickly wrote an ending.

I love Tana French books! I am reading the last one right now. She will be releasing her next book in 2014. They are Irish murder mysteries. Every book takes you thru a murder case in the eyes of the detective trying to solve it.

The best book I’ve read lately is”Favorite Wife: Escape From Polygamy” by Susan Ray Schmidt. I couldn’t put it down!
The Night Circus was the greatest book I’ve read in the last year. It is beautifully descriptive, captivating you with magic I have never before found in a book!! Happy Reading, all!

I have been reading a ton lately! I recently finished The Paris Wife about Ernest Hemingway’s first wife. It was a great read but definitely had a melancholy tone throughout it. I am now re-reading The Red Tent by Anita Diamont. I read it years ago and remember it being good but now that I am older and have daughters, it really brings a new meaning to it. After this book I plan on finding some light reading!

I enjoyed Night of the Purple Moon by Scott Cramer. It’s a YA novel as well. All the adults die and the kids have to learn to survive.
I always enjoy Kathy Reichs’ Bones series. I love her characters.
Reading The Killer Angels, by Michael Shaara. 1975 Pulitzer fiction winner about Gettysburg. And Kate DiCamillo is fabulous. If you haven’t read Because of Winn-Dixie or her Mercy Watson books, you’re in for a treat. She’s a wonderful speaker, too.

I recently finished Me Before You and really enjoyed it. I didn’t like the ending, but it was the only ending that worked – and I’d read it again. Currently reading The Goldfinch, and the writing and storyline are incredible.
I am currently reading Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch. It’s almost the time of year for me to start Cider House Rules again. I read that during the fall and I read the Chocolat series by Joanna Hanna around Lent-Easter. I think for Christmas this year I’ll read The Fourteen Sisters of Emilio Montez O’Brien by Oscar Hijuelos, I haven’t read that book in over 20 years.
I have just re read the Importance of Being Ernest. I love E-books as you can get so many of the classics for free.

I have been following you on Goodreads, because we share similar tastes in books. I LOVED the Book Thief, and can’t wait to see the movie when it comes out in December. I just finished reading “The Baker’s Daughter”, which was a good read.
A friend and I started a book club this year, with about 10 members. The best book we’ve read so far is The Red Tent.
My students keep urging me to read The Fault in Our Stars! One I love is One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Right now I’m trying to work my way thru Mercedes Lackey’s Joust series. I’ve read several of her books from various series.. haven’t found one of her books yet I haven’t liked.

I’m currently reading Wild (http://www.amazon.com/Wild-Journey-Lost-Found-Oprahs-ebook/dp/B005CRQ4XI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384716131&sr=8-1&keywords=wild%2C+book) by Cheryl Strayed and Personal MBA by Josh Kaufman. Both are interesting for different reason. Cheryl’s first hand account of her life and how she found confidence and herself on the Pacific Crest Trail is intriguing. Josh’s thoughts on education, especially his views on higher education and what we learn on our known can be more powerful and useful (and cheaper) than any expensive MBA program in the country.
In the past I’ve read Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Malcolm Gladwell, Belong to Me by Maria de los Santos and
The Truth about Melody Browne by Lisa Jewell were all great reads. Blink is an insightful book on how our gut make quick decisions and how we need to learn to recognize those instincts. Malcolm’s antidotes and examples are fascinating. Maria’s book in a look into a 30 something mom living in a new neighborhood learning how to be the stay at home wife. Maria’s writing sucks you in and her character development, such like Lisa’s, make you feel as though the characters are people you’ve known for years.
I loved the House of Hope Novels by Neta Jackson.
One of my favorite recent reads is The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss. It’s two books (to be 3 eventually) – The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear. The story is so rich and layered that I pretty much buried my face in these books back to back and didn’t come up for air until I was done!
My all time favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird, which to me is actually the Great American Novel. Recently, I read The Dark Witch, which I see is on your TBR list. It is the typical Nora trilogy formula with the typical Nora paranormal-lite formula with the semi-typical Nora in Ireland setting. But, if you like Nora you like all those things and I enjoyed the book! There is something comforting about picking up a book and getting exactly what you expect.
My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult was a very moving and hit home for me.
I love the hunger games books right now. I use to love to read the harry potter books!
I recently finished up “Two Boys Kissing’ by David Levithan. I work in a small town library and the person who orders for my collection was afraid there would be some backlash on this one, so I decided to prepare myself. The narrator is a group of gay men who have died from AIDS, the subject, several gay teens in various situations from safe and out, to in the closet. I really enjoyed this short book. It touched on bullying, being true to yourself, and how there is ALWAYS something in your future to live for.
I have read a lot of good books, but my comfort books are the Harry Potter series.

My all time favorite book is To Kill A Mocking Bird. I had to read it in school and do a book report on it. I have read it 3 more times since then, and I love it every time.

I loved the Hourglass door trilogy. It was a fun, interesting series that I thoroughly enjoyed.
One of my favorite books is Swan Song. It’s a post apocalyptic novel that is such a great read. I first read it when I was a pre-teen and it is a story that had stuck with me til this day.
I’m so glad you loved E&P as much as I did. I am a big fan of most John Green books, and Looking for Alaska ranks right up there with The Fault in Our Stars as two of my favorites in his catalog.
I’ve been reading a lot lately, but I don’t know if I have anything to recommend since I’m taking this fantasy and science fiction course that’s dictating a lot of what I’ve been reading. I should go work on this tea and books post I’ve been trying to write for three weeks. Ahem.

Although it took me a little bit to get into it, I really enjoyed Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain. It was very thought-provoking and would lend itself to a great book club discussion. I’ve got physical limitations but I can’t let them stop me, because I’m an RN and need to move to do my work, and because I love to travel, and refuse to be kept home by those limitations. Move Into Life has opened a path for me to work with my mind and my body to learn a new way to move, so that moving, working, actually makes me more fit, not less.
Similarly, I work with medically fragile children, in home care, after many years of working with them in NICU/PICU. Kids Beyond Limits applies Anat’s Nine Essentials and the principles of brain plasticity and brain-body connections, and helps me help these children to transcend their very real limits.
All in all, nothing short of miraculous.

I liked The Awakened series by Jason Tesar.
One of my favorite books to read over and over again is A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux. Yes, it’s a romance novel…. Not my typical book genre choice but I first read it about 13 yrs ago and it remains a favorite today!
The Glass Castle and The Red Tent are two of my all time favorite books. I recently read The Chaperone which was good and by a local Kansas author.
I’m loving Dan Brown’s Inferno right now.
Well, I don’t read much fiction although I like it when I do. I just read a great book about mudras that was very interesting to me. Ha! I’ve read a great deal of classic Brit Lit in the past and love most all of it. Great giveaway, Kristen! xo.

Inside out and Back Again
All I’m reading right now are textbooks and a billion packets of readings since I’m in college! My favorite book is definitely My Sister’s Keeper.
I loved reading the whole Outlander Series which now Starz is doing a mini series.
The Book Thief was such a great book! Also categorized as young adult, but in my opinion was not juvenile at all. I learned a lot about that era and the characters were so developed. Not to mention the movie comes out soon!!! I hope you like it. I love all your book reviews – I am an avid reader and plan to add the ones I have not read yet to my list. Happy Reading.

I just finished Cheryl Strayed’ book “tiny beautiful things” and am about halfway through The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells. Both amazing!

I’m currently reading The Neighbors – not a new book, but found it on the “cheap” downloadable books from Amazon… it’s been a nice surprise in that it was more suspenseful than I expected it to be… hope to finish it this week!

I just read 11/22/63 by Stephen King which I actually heard about on a different cooking blog (Jessica @ How Sweet). It was really long, but REALLY good and I flew by it in a week! Also I just have to say again that I love these book posts of yours and have come to really trust (and agree with) your taste in books!

I actually recently read Eleanor & Park and loved it! It was such an interesting story with some dark depth to it. I would definitely recommend it.
I don’t have a favorite book. I enjoy the Wayne Thomas Batson series and Donita K. Paul’s series (Christian Authors) and would love to read the Book Thief, Ender’s Game, and many others I have on my to read list.
Fave books are still probably Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I love historical novels, especially set in the Revolutionary War period. I’ve just discovered Jeff Shaara, and I’m enjoying reading his book Rise to Rebellion .
I just re-read an old favorite…Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas. This always gives me a good cry and helps me to move on from all the JUNK.
The last book I really liked was The Wind Through the Keyhole by Stephen King.
Another great read is ROOM by Emma Donaghue. It actually is even better to listen on tape. The story is told from a little boy’s point of view and hearing it narrated was so much better. The book was heart wrenching, yet uplifting. A tearjerker at times so beware, but a story of hope and survival.
I recently read about about life in North Korea called Nothing To Envy, a difficult book to read but definitely eye-opening and gripping. Makes you appreciate the freedoms we enjoy! Thank you.
My favorite laugh out loud books are the Stphanie Plum seris from Janet Evanovich. My all-time favorite though is still Steven King’s The Stand.
My favorite recently was a series called the The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.. this series is very funny with a bit of dark humor. One of teens brought it home and I had to hide it before he could take it back so I can finish it. If you read them.. you must start on the first one, so you slowly get introduced to each character. Every book has a big battle at one of the Chicago landmarks.
The Night Circus is by far the best book I have read in the last year. It is beautifully descriptive and captivates the readier in a magic that I have never found in a book before. Happy reading, all!

My all time favorite books are “Till We Have Faces” by C. s. Lewis & “Hard Laughter” by Anne Lamott.
My Mother’s Girlhood, it was written about my great uncle’s grandmother and it gave me a wonderful glimpse into my family’s past.

I read only non-fiction, and my favorite book currently is Against the Grain. I primarily read books on diet, nutrition and cooking lately.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is my latest favorite book.

I recently read the Divergent series and I really enjoyed it.
I never read the Harry Potter books, I don’t know why I just started them now, but now I am flying through them and loving it, reading a book, then watching a movie to compare (and while I usually hate movies from books I actually am enjoying the movies too, though the books are still better). I’ll get back to adult books as soon as I finish the series….

The best book I have read for a long time (which I read many years ago) was Memoirs of a Geisha. It’s still #1 on my list of favorite books.

My favorite book ever would have to be The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin.
I’ve read a lot of books this year. I am currently reading the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. It’s a good series, but I haven’t loved every book and it’s really long. Each book is around 800 pages and there are 14 of them.
Anyway, back to the main question. One of the best books that I have read this year was The Rithmatist by Brandon Sanderson. It is a YA book. The concept of the book is pretty unique, and Sanderson does an excellent job telling it.
Moby Dick…
I’m not much help with books lately – ours genre is usually of the Dr Seuss, Bernstein Bears, … or the latest fav: Ferdinand the Bull. I did start re-reading “The Good War: An Oral History of World War Two” by Studs Terkel a few days ago but didn’t get very far.
Gone Girl was a favorite that I read this past year. I’m currently reading Annie’s Ghost for our bookclub, it’s currently a bookclub pick for the State of Michigan through public libraries. Thanks for the giveaway and book advice!!

I just finished the Wool series, not my typical book, but I loved it!! Also so nice to see a self published author take off and have something do so well. Definitely recommend all of the books in the series.

Recently, I read the conclusion to the Divergent series. While it was very different from the first two, I did enjoy it and the whole series for that matter. I also love most of Steven King’s work and loved his two recent novels Joyland and Doctor Sleep a followup to The Shining.
