Yo! What’s for Breakfast? {Recipe: Homemade Strawberry Milk}

This is part of a series of posts on National Dairy Month written in partnership with Got Milk and The Breakfast Project. Homemade Strawberry Milk

So, I may be letting this whole “assign the kids to make breakfast” thing go to my head some. I mean, it is really nice to have the tables turned for once. Instead of the constant berating from my kids about where their breakfast is, I get to be the one harping on them.

Kelly is taking on our summer breakfast project like a champ, even when we are all bugging her to get moving and get some food on the table. She’s definitely got the morning person gene I lack. And she manages to be nice without coffee! She’s pretty much a saint.

On one of her assigned days this week, she decided she wanted to do cereal for breakfast – which I’m fine with… I could probably eat cereal for every meal if it were socially acceptable to do so. She wanted to take our milk a step further though and asked for Strawberry Milk. I didn’t want to buy the strawberry syrup, so we decided to make our own version, using fresh strawberries, sugar and water to make a tasty syrup. A last minute decision lead us to adding a teaspoon of vanilla too … that was a good call as it added a special taste to the syrup and complimented the strawberries very well!

You can find the recipe for our Homemade Strawberry Milk below, but first, my friends at the National Milk Mustache Campaign have TWO June Dairy Month and Breakfast Project giveaways for TWO lucky Dine & Dish readers!

  1. Oh my gosh she is adorable. Gah. I love her strawberry milk. Our favorite way to eat milk is in overnight oats or in homemade yogurt with plenty of fruit for either.

  2. Milk is an important part of my breakfast routine. I make oatmeal with milk and enjoy it with my favorite cereals. If I have time for a hot breakfast, I’ll enloy a glass of milk (white, strawberry or chocolate) too. Breakfast is an important meal that I must have every day!

  3. My kids have cereal with milk nearly every day, but sometimes I like to switch it up and use milk to make fruit smoothies for them.

  4. This looks super yummy! So going to try this!! Thank you :)

  5. Oh my gosshh, Kristen! Your daughter is adorable, all those freckles! Wow, she is so pretty!

    Oh these are the moments I wish I had kids and could put them to work! Does she make coffee? :) I don’t drink cold milk – I know, crazy. But love using a splash of milk in my eggs before scrambling them to make them extra creamy!

  8. I make a smoothie for breakfast almost every day and of course, it has milk (fat free only please).

    • I need to have my boys make more breakfasts. Ours usually consists of them each at different times having cereal. ;) Though for the last two days my 11 yo keeps making pb/banana smoothies. I’ll have to see if he wants to make some strawberry milk, I have a bunch of frozen strawberries.

  9. Michelle L says:
