It’s about this time each year that I start to get that uneasy feeling about summer being close to over. We have one month left before my kids go back to school, and I know and don’t like how fast that last month of summer speeds by.
We’re doing an ok job getting through our Summer Bucket List. There is no way we’ll get through it all, but it has been a fun-filled, really great summer nonetheless. I owe a lot of that to being able to focus on some of the activities we created for our summer.
One thing on our list that we crossed off right away and have repeated over and over is making homemade sno cones. Previously we always bought the bottles of sno cone syrup, but this year we figured out how to make our own sno cone syrup at home.
Our most favorite sno cone syrup so far is root beer flavored. Homemade sno cones of any flavor are such a great treat for beating the heat.
What’s your favorite flavor of sno cone?
Root Beer Flavored Sno Cone Syrup
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 1/2 - 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons Zatarain's Root Beer Extract
Instructions
- Bring the water and sugar to a boil, stirring continuously until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and add the Zatarain's Root Beer Extract, stirring until well blended.
- Remove from heat and allow to cool completely. Pour desired amount over shaved ice.
- Store and keep refrigerated in glass or plastic bottle. Shake gently before using after storing.
Love that you guys are making homemade sno cones. I haven’t had one in ages. Will definitely be making these with Jason next weekend!
You totally should – it’s so easy and a great way to beat the heat 🙂
I love your sno cone holder!!
Thank you – got it at Target!
Wow. I had absolutely no idea that there was such a thing as root beer extract! I learn something new every day. And I know how you feel about summer speeding by. Our kids here start back to school on August 6, so their summer is even closer to the end. We just have to relax and enjoy the days that are left!
August 6th seems so early!
What a fun and refreshing treat for summer!
I’ve been thinking about making homemade sno cone syrup but have not stopped long enough to do it. This looks super yummy and my boys would love it!
Root beer extract? Wow! Never heard of it. This looks gorgeous! Thanks so much, I just learned something new.
You can make so many yummy things with it! Enjoy!
What a fun idea, Kristen! I always see root beer extract at the grocery store, but haven’t had a reason to buy it in the past. I know my kids would be so excited if we made Sno Cones at home.
Your boys would love it, especially after one of their soccer games or #RFR5K runs 🙂
OMG LOVE THIS! It was great to see you this week. I wanted to talk more 🙁
Thanks, Alison!
It always goes by too fast, doesn’t it? I enjoyed meeting your daughter and of course, seeing you again!
Oh man I love these cones! But not like Madonna’s cones. Not like that.
Hehehe – you are a goof!
I love this! What a great idea. Totally making these this summer.
I hope you will! enjoy 🙂
How fun! You are Super Mom!!!
Not super mom… these are way too easy to make for that title!
These are super cute. I want! 😀
You are SUCH a fun mom!! Root beer sounds fabulous – even though I like my snow cones in any color of red. (Red is a flavor, right??) 🙂
I get nervous when summer is half-way over too! Love these snow cones…my kids go crazy for anything root beer!
oh what a great idea! I bought the wrong type of root beer flavoring for cupcakes a year or two ago, and it was WAY to strong for cupcakes, maybe I could try in on sno cones!
Mmm, snow cones … have you been reading my mind? : ) I’ve been hankering for one of those all summer long now (that and cotton candy and other things that equal summer [or county fairs] but would make dentists cringe/really rich). : )
It my first time to know that it is possible for us to make a Homemade Root Beer Flavored Sno Cone Syrup Recipe without using more machine. This is very interesting and I hope I can get a good result by making this one.
