Yes, Renea, the only difference is that your Mom used government surplus cheese. I think it might have been a little sharper flavor. Your Mom was a GREAT school lunch cook. She used to save me a little bit of bread dough (which I loved) when she baked bread. I also loved her chicken supreme. Mmmmm, good! Kristen and Jodie used to come back to AGS from the high school for fish sticks.

I think all District 506 cooks had all the same recipes… We had the same lunch at Meadow View (in Parsons)… I literally JUST dreamed about this sandwich last week. Thank you so much for sharing!

Thank you! I’ve been craving this for months now, it having been a staple when I attended AGS as well (They also served it at Meadow View, I suspect it was a district-wide favorite). I’ve been searching recipes for po’boys, cold cut pie, casseroles . . . what a wonderful surprise to find EXACTLY what I was looking for. Hooray!!!

Man we missed out on this goodness at my elementary school. We had the fish sticks and mystery meat but no Poor Boy. Yum. I grew up in a town JUST like that!! I used to ride my bike to the local grocery, get a $1.50 turkey or ham sandwich (if you didn’t specify the $1.5o version, it was HUGE), chips & a drink, and charge it to my dad’s account. Oh, the memories!

PS. I’m 26, so this was in the 90′s! Since then the private grocery was sold to a corporation, so no more tabs.

I just blogged today about my love for the chicken sandwiches my high school used to serve. Mm, they were yummy!
