I have a horrible fountain drink addiction. I used to never drink soda/pop/cola/coke of any kind. Once I had my first child, a trigger went off inside of me and I had a sudden caffeine crazed addiction of the fountain drink variety.

I have tried off and on over the years, without a whole lot of success, to break this habit. I will do good for a few weeks and then will break down and fall down the slippery slope, yet again.

My mom once told me that the easiest way to break a habit is to replace it with another habit. With that brilliant piece of advice in mind, I have now found something that I really believe will be a sufficient fountain drink habit breaker.

5 min | 5 min prep


  1. Crush ice cubes in blender.
  2. Add remaining ingredients.
  3. Blend on high for 45 seconds. Serve in Hurricane glass.

    Holy crap! That makes me laugh. I became addicted to fountain caffeine years ago to help a scratchy throat at cotton harvest time. Don’t think I better keep this replacement in my desk drawer.

    Your new addiction sounds like a perfect replacement to me! My hubby used to make me mudslides in the summer all the time… gonna have to remind him he’s fallen down on the job and he better get back at it! LOL!

    I can totally sympathize with your fountain addiction, especially with QuikTrip on every corner in Kansas City. Oh, they have the best variety too… crushed ice, cubed ice, 30 different fountain drinks including SQUIRT! Oh, I don’t even have to be thirsty, walk in and have to have 4 different drinks.
    Love the mudslides! Good way to redirect.

    Holy cow! That’s a habit that I wouldn’t want to break… Just you wait until I unpack my booze. I think we’ll have that as a celebration to a job well done! (Or just done if that turns out to be the case.)

    What a great blog1 I especially loved your “there was a time” post below. Hilarious. Haven’t we all been there. It just takes a few kiddos to throw the whole priority system for a loop-but in a good way.

    I was never a soda drinker…ever! Then when I was pregnant, I craved Coca cola like I never knew I could. Apparently there was something in it my body needed, and I indulged myself. Ever since then, I could manage a can or two of soda but now I just can’t do it. Tooooo sweet, and all that fake sugar stuff is scary…..way scary. My body doesn’t need that at all.

    Speaking of mudslides… If you’re ever in a hurry (or your blender STILL hasn’t been replaced, like mine) try TGI Friday’s Mudslide mix – not bad, not bad at all! (Speaking of which, they also market a yummy strawberry mixer as well, although I can’t remember it’s name…. Strawberry Shortcake or something er-rother. It’s really good when you’re in the mood for some summertime strawberry sweetness.)
